The Law of Christ

Reno Omokri's Book Launch 8In Galatians 6:2, Paul asks believers to “bear ye one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ”. But what is this law of Christ’s? It is different from the 10 Commandments. When Jesus was asked what the greatest law is He said “you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind….. You shall love your neighbor as yourself”-Matthew 22:37-39. Jesus was quoting the Law when He said that. But when He was about departing earth, He told His disciples “a new commandment I give unto you, That you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another”-John 14:34. Believers are NOT meant to love others as themselves. They are meant to love others as Jesus loved. Jesus knew and the law proved that people do not know how to love themselves and expecting them to love others as theirselves would be to put those others at risk. So He gave what you might call a constitutional amendment to the 10 commandments using Himself as a measure of love. He says to you and I who have experienced heartbreak and heartache which caused us to have a distorted image of ourselves-It is okay if you do not know how to love others. Just look at the way I treated people and then treat your neighbour like that.

Character is the Preferred Choice

imageThere are things weightier than miracles and financial breakthroughs in the Christian faith. The Pilgrim can actually be distracted from his pilgrimage on earth by them. In 2 Timothy 2:20-21, Paul wrote “In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work”. Of greater import on our pilgrimage on earth is the pursuit of holiness for “without holiness no one will see the Lord”-Hebrews 12:14. The reason why God does not call us home as soon as we become Christians is because He wants us to cleanse yourself by being “transformed by the renewing of your mind”-Romans 12:2. Character is the ONLY thing we will take with us to The Kingdom of God. So answer this question-have you got character or have you got miracles? It is best to have both. But if you cannot have both and must have one, then character is the preferred choice because Jesus said “by their fruits ye shall know them”-Matthew 7:20.

Regularly Mow Your Lawn

Reno 8Luke 4:13 says “when the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time”. From this verse we understand that the devil and his demons tempt us when they see an opportunity. It is said that if you travel to any place and don’t find a Chinese person there you should leave because there are no opportunities in the land. This is a joke of course, but there is a lesson to be learnt in it. People go where there are opportunities and people flee places without opportunities. Demons are that way too. If we give them an opportunity they will tempt us that’s why Ephesians 4:27 says “give no opportunity to the devil”. The only way we can block the opportunity available to demons is if we stay connected to God by daily Bible reading to practice what we read. Reading The Bible is like mowing your lawn. If you mow your lawn regularly, it will be well kept and there will be no weeds. But if you don’t mow it regularly, your lawn will be overgrown and soon weeds will appear. The Word of God is the lawn mower and God’s Holy Spirit is the man operating the lawn mower your mind is the lawn and weeds are opportunities for demons to operate in your life.

Who is a Man of God?

Reno Omokri's Book Launch 82 Corinthians 11:14-15 says “and no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works”. The key things to note is that a. Satan has “transformed” into an angel of light; b. that he has his “ministers” who have likewise “transformed as the ministers of righteousness”. When we were growing up there were magicians, palm readers and soothsayers. Today, you hardly see them. Maybe a few have repented from their evil ways. But the majority have seen that if they call their craft witchcraft or soothsaying, people find them repulsive. So, they watched ministers of God and “transformed” by copying them such that they still perform wonders, tell you about your past and present with help from familiar spirits, but they do it masquerading as men of God. The Bible warned us of this day. A man IS NOT of God because he can perform wonders. Jesus said “by their fruits you shall know them”. What are these fruits? “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, self-control”-Galatians 5:22.

For Glory and for Beauty

Reno 8One of the traditions the enemy has brought into the church is that pastors and priests are not meant to dress in stylish and tasteful clothes. Actually, according to the bible, Men of God are to be modest in character but in appearance they should radiate the glory of God. When God was giving instructions to Moses as to how Aaron should be clothed he said “And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty”-Exodus 28:2. God went further to say “Have them use gold, and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and fine linen”-Exodus 28:5. It is also evident that Jesus dressed in such a manner as we see that “when the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom. Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another. “Let’s decide by lot who will get it”-John 19:23-24. As a child of God, don’t dress indecently and don’t dress shabbily. Satan doesn’t care which extreme you choose as long as you do not obey God. How should we dress? In clothes that are “for glory and for beauty”!

Two Types of Sorrow

pic3In 2 Corinthians 7:10 we learn that “Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death”. The sorrow that comes over a person that makes them want to repent of their sins and turn a new leaf by accepting Jesus is from God. However, the sorrow that leads to regret and depression is not from God. It is of demonic origin. The intention of the demons behind that affliction is for the afflicted person to commit suicide. There is only one way to permanently deal with that situation-Turn to God through Christ Jesus. Jesus said “The thief comes not, but to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly”-John 10:10. If a record is constantly playing in your head of all you have done wrong and all the opportunities you have missed, it is time to stop listening to yourself and start talking to yourself. Start by saying “God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”-2 Timothy 1:7.

Affliction Can’t Stand Against God’s Elect

Reno Omokri's Book Launch 8Nobody can successfully afflict children of God who know where they stand in Christ. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 says “Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are”. The temple of God used to exist externally in a tabernacle and whoever defiled it was destroyed by God-“Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took their respective firepans, and after putting fire in them, placed incense on it and offered strange fire before the LORD, which He had not commanded them. And fire came out from the presence of the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the LORD”-Leviticus 10:1-2. Today, the temple of God is within you and if anybody attempts to defiles you, the same God that destroyed those who attempted to defile the Old Testament temple has promised to destroy anybody that defiles the internal temple within you. But for this to be the case, you have to be have to know and know that you know that you are the temple of God. However, when you don’t know what you are meant to be carrying then you are not carrying it.

Jannes & Jambres and the Miraculous

pic3Miracles are very important and are to be desired, but consider that it is possible for the enemy to perform miracles. Satan has been counterfeiting God’s miracles since Jannes and Jambres contended with Moses and replicated the first signs he did before Pharaoh. But the one thing the enemy can never do is save your soul just as Jannes and Jambres could not save the people of Egypt from God’s wrath. People will naturally flock were signs and wonders are performed but if all you are hearing is how to get the miraculous without being convicted of your sins you might want to consider that that was also the case with the Egyptians. They had men of miracles  but did not have men that could lead the way to salvation like Moses. Jesus preached repentance, salvation and then performed miracles. In fact after Jesus miraculously healed the invalid at Bethesda He said to Him “Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you”. The worse thing you can do to anybody is to release the miraculous on them without leading them to Christ.

Build Your Name Not Your Fortune.

Reno Omokri's Book Launch 8Proverbs 22:1 says “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches”. To give a practical application of this Word of God, consider the true case of Tina Turner. When she was splitting with her husband, Ike Turner, Tina told the court to allow her husband keep all their money but that he should allow her keep the name Tina Turner which he had given her. The judge so ruled and Ike left with all their money and Tina in 1976 left the marriage with just 36 cents (as she claims in her biography). Nine years after Tina Turner, who had just 36 cents on a particular day in 1976, starred in a movie, Mad Max: Beyond the Thunderdome, which grossed $36 million. By 1986 Ike Turner had finished the money he and Tina made, however, Tina Turner had used her name to make enough money that she became a multi millionaire. God’s Word cannot lie. Focus on building your character and your name and your character and name will build your fortune for you. But even better than building a name, build a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

Completeness in Christ

Reno Omokri's Book Launch 8In 1 Thessalonians 5:23 Paul wrote that “May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ”. From this Scripture it is clear that God is not interested in a truncated human being, rather He wants our whole person. In essence, God wants us to take care of our spirit by reading The Word of God and applying it in our lives. To take care of our soul by by enjoying sensual pleasures in moderation and as prescribed by The Word of God. And finally, to take care of our bodies by eating healthy, exercising regularly and fulfilling our sexual urges under the institution of marriage as ordained by God. If we take care of just one aspect of our tripartite nature, we end up being a truncated human. From the Scriptures we learn that we shouldn’t be so spiritual that we are no fun to be around, we shouldn’t be so sensual that our sensuality overcomes our dedication to Christ and we shouldn’t be so carnally minded that we lose our connection to the Spirit. Rather,  “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD”-Psalm 19:14.
